Immunizing your kitten is an important procedure that in most cases will provide protection against illnesses that are otherwise life threatening.

The series of immunizations given in kittenhood is designed to protect your kitten as its immune system is developing, doctor and the protection provided by the mother cat is disappearing. The series ends at about 4 months of age. These are the most important immunizations your cat will receive, so they must not be taken lightly.

When your kitten is an adult, we will adjust the immunization schedule according to your cat’s potential exposure to these viral diseases. Many cats are protected for three years or longer when vaccinated correctly as a kitten and young adult.

In keeping with the lifestyle assessment of the cat as an adult, veterinarians have developed a list of which vaccines are considered essential and which vaccines may be optional depending on the cat’s lifestyle and/or exposure possibilities.

All cats should receive the ESSENTIAL vaccinations with boosters at appropriate intervals. The intervals will be determined by the doctor, depending on your cat’s exposure risk. AT BEVERLY OAKS, WE DO NOT ADMINISTER NON-ESSENTIAL VACCINES !

Although most pets do not react adversely to a vaccination, some have had reactions after receiving a vaccine. Serious reactions include the development of an incurable tissue cancer, and with repeated re-vaccination, some vaccines have been implicated in the development of kidney failure later on in your cat’s life.

AT BEVERLY OAKS, WE HAVE EVALUATED THE VACCINES, AND THE BOOSTERING SCHEDULE THAT WE USE, SO THAT WE MINIMIZE THE RISK OF DISEASE TO YOUR BELOVED CAT LATER ON IN HIS/HER LIFE.
